January, 2011 Industrial Residual Inventory for Jigani and Boomasandra Industrial Area
 

ROI has started an investigation with RV College of Engineering to recommend strategies that will transform current industrial practices in the Jigani and Boomasandra Industrial Area to models where resources are conserved and cycled within localized industrial clusters. This project is financially and technically supported by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Karnataka, India.

January, 2011 Gaseous solvent recovery from bulk drug industries, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh
 

ROI has started an investigation to estimate chemical characteristics and quantities of gaseous and liquid solvent loss from pharmaceutical industries in and around Hyderabad. An important component of this investigation will include an assessment of how new technologies diffuse in these clusters to inform economically viable strategies to implement solutions to capture and reuse solvents. This study is financially and technically supported by the Foundation for MSME Clusters, India. This investigation is in collaboration with the Center for Development Finance, Institute for Financial Management and Research, Chennai, India.

January, 2011 Industry Visit
 

ROI representatives visited Rapsri Industries. Rapsri Industries is a leading copper and copper alloy foundry in India established in 1971. This visit was to assist ROI in a project on 'Compiling Life Cycle Inventories for various industrial processes in India. This project is technically supported by Ecoinvent, Swiss Center for Life Cycle Inventories.

December, 2010 Internship
 

Mariane Schnieder is currently doing a 2 month internship on Life Cycle Inventory of foundries in Haora in West Bengal, India. Mariane was trained at Ecoinvent, Dubendorf, Switzerland to convert MFA data into the LCI Ecoinvent format. The data sets she is compiling will contribute to our understanding of the Life Cycle Impacts of manufacturing Cast Iron in small scale foundries in India. Mariane is currently doing her Masters in Environmental Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich, Switzerland.

December, 2010 Jatropha-Prosopis Socioeconomic Metabolism Study
 

ROI has started an investigation to assess potential changes in biomass flows due to India’s Biodiesel Policy. This will be include a comparative Material Flow Analysis (MFA) of the Jatropha curcas and Prosopis juliflora economies in Tamil Nadu, India. This study is in collaboration with Jennifer Bakka from the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, Yale University.

October, 2010 Workshop
 

Dr. Megha Shenoy, Mr. Lokanath and Ms. Laure Muller attended a Workshop on Life Cycle Assessment at the CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Center, Hyderabad, India. The workshop was a joint initiative of the CII - Godrej GBC and Ecoinvent, Switzerland to create awareness on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and develop Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) background data for India through an LCI India Network. ROI will be part of this exciting new network of experts on LCI in India.

September, 2010 ROI team
 

Ms. Grishma Jain joins ROIs team as a researcher. She will be compiling a review on "Indian energy policy and strategy: pre and post COP 15" for submission to the International Development Policy Series published by the Graduate Institute, Geneva, Switzerland. Grishma has completed her Masters in Green Chemistry & Sustainable Industrial Technology from the University of York, U.K.
