Symposium Overview - Indo-Swiss Energy & Development Symposium | |

The latest issue of the International Development Policy series 2011 dedicated to energy and development was launched by The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies| Geneva, Switzerland today during the symposium on “Energy in India: Governance and Geopolitics in the Context of Global Challenges” at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). Indian and Swiss energy experts highlight the need for delivery of stronger institutional frameworks to stabilise global energy demand-supply constraints.
The symposium was very well-attended over 55 delegates by a diverse audience ranging from energy experts, State Government representative, delegates from NGOs working on energy and development issues to students from IIM Bangalore. Throughout the day, interactive sessions provided the audience a platform to share their concerns and knowledge with the speakers. The session ended with a round-table discussion on a potential 'shift to a low-carbon economy' where experts debated India's current initiatives and opportunities.

Guillaume Massard PhD in environmental sciences, Msc in environmental engineering
Scientific director, SOFIES, Switzerland visited ROI to discuss about potential collaborative projects. Dr. Massard's research is in the field of industrial ecology and industrial symbiosis. His research has allowed for the development and application of tools and policies that implement Industrial Ecology in Switzerland.

Megha Shenoy, Research Director, ROI visited the Peenya Industries Association to meet with the President and Honorable Secretary of PIA. There she discussed Industrial Ecology approaches such as Industrial Symbiosis, Cleaner Production and Life Cycle Assessment. PIA is keen to work with ROI to investigate and implement strategies to reduce the adverse environmental impacts of industrial development in India. Peenya is the largest industrial estate in south Asia with more than 8000 manufacturing industrial facilities.
